The initiative of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property to prepare a draft regulation for the protection of the Olympic symbol came in implementation of the Royal Decree No. (M/2) dated 10/1/1406 AH, approving the Kingdom’s agreement to the Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of the Olympic Symbol. The project aims to fill the legislative void that may arise as a result of exploiting the Olympic symbol without a license from the competent authority in the Kingdom - the Saudi Olympic Committee-, as the motive for preparing this project is to reverse the provisions contained in the treaty, in addition to regulating the relationship between the International Olympic Committee and The National Olympic Committee, which aims to collect revenues from the licenses granted to use the Olympic symbol in the Kingdom, enhance the protection of Olympic symbols, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of Olympic symbol owners.
