HRH Abdul Aziz bin Majid governor of Madinah sent a cable of appreciation and thanks to king Abdullah for his decision to start a historical and most extensive expansion of the prophet's mosque. He cited the major overall development enjoyed by Madian.

GCC secretary general and the secretariat of senior clerics have also expressed appreciation of the move.

Upon completion of the proposed expansion, the mosque will accomodate more than one million six hundred thousand worshipers.
