On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Makkah Province, opened yesterday in Jeddah the First International Conference on Teaching the Holy Quran.
The conference has been organized by the International Organization for Quran Memorization affiliated to the Muslim World League during the period from June 5-7, 2010.
During the opening ceremony, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal delivered the speech of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in which he welcomed the participants in the conference.
'The late King Imam Abdulaziz bin Abdurrahman Al Saud founded this state and based its constitution and approach on the Holy Quran. Emanating from the importance of the message of the Holy Quran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been keen since its establishment on serving the Holy Quran. This was reflected in printing the Holy Quran, publishing its translations around the world, establishing Quran colleges and institutions and supporting schools for the memorization of the Holy Quran in addition to establishing TV and radio channels and websites for teaching the Quran sciences', the King said in his speech.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques urged the Islamic nation to abide by the Holy Quran and its sciences and follow its moderate approach. 'We should show the correct explanation of the verses of the Holy Quran to void the argues of those who describe our religion as terrorist and extremist although it is a religion of tolerance and mercy,' he said.
'The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will continue its efforts to support projects and institutions that give care to the Holy Quran,' the King concluded.
Then, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal opened the exhibition held on the sidelines of the conference.
