Electronic licensing system launched in Makkah
Makkah - Makkah Municipality officially launched on Wednesday an electronic licensing system which has been tested on over 200 shops in Makkah and is being run in cooperation with Intel's RFID International Group.
The Makkah Municipality seeks to implement the system on all of Makkah’s 50,000 stores.
Makkah Mayor Dr. Osama Al-Bar said during the launching ceremony , according to Saudi Press Agency, that the new system would help improve performance and supervision, and will be used by municipality officers in monitoring health and safety, control of buildings, and checking construction and pilgrim housing permits.
The new system involves field officers punching information about commercial shops into a hand-held device. The information can then be updated in a central database.
