Saudi Arabia and Kosovo establish diplomatic relations

New York - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Kosovo formally established diplomatic relations on Friday.
According to "Al-Riyadh" newspaper, the joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was signed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to the United States of America, Avni Spahiu, and the Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Khalid A. Al-Nafisee on behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at (Protocol) the signing ceremony, Ambassador Al-Nafisee emphasized his optimism that Saudi Arabia's example would be followed by its neighbors in the region, that more recognitions will come, stressing that Saudi Arabia is an ally of the Republic of Kosovo.
Ambassador Spahiu thanked Ambassador Al-Nafisee and the Government of Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and stressed the importance of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, which will open a path to greater cooperation between the two countries.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recognized the Republic of Kosovo on April 20th of 2009. Kosovo has been recognized by 62 countries so far and many others are in the process to announce recognition.
