MCIT begins to receive applications for this year Digital Excellence Award

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) announced the start of registration for the annual Digital Excellence Award in its fifth round. Registration can be made through MCIT website,  www.mcit.gov.sa. The Ministry noted that registration will run for six weeks and will end on May 28, 2010.
This year’s Award covers the following branches: websites for government departments, NGOs, non-profit institutions, business and finance, education, health and medical services, cultural websites, science and technology and interactive entertainment websites. Registration will also be accepted from companies working in various IT businesses like the ones involved in the designing of Internet websites, companies specialized in the administration of Arabic online content as well as ISPs and hosting companies.
It is worth mentioning that the Digital Excellence Award aims at encouraging, supporting and upgrading the Arabic content on the Internet. The Internet has become a key and vital reference in information industry and an efficient search tool that many cannot do without in particular in today’s world of communication and information technology revolution.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has launched this Award after it has noticed the weakness of Arabic content on the Internet compared to the other contents promoting other languages and cultures. By launching this Award, MCIT also aims at supporting all efforts exerted in enhancing the Arabic web  content, encouraging  individual and/or institutional efforts to develop Arabic  web content  and providing secured Arabic digital environments which runs in consistency  with Saudi Arabia’s traditions, cultures, customs, and norms.
