New directives on lost documents issued

RIYADH – Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, has issued directive on procedures to be taken by citizens and expatriates in case of loss of passports, IDs, driving licenses, birth certificates and car number plates.
The loss of a national ID, Family ID or birth certificate should be reported to the nearest branch of the Civil Status Department, as Saudi Press Agency quoted.
The loss of driving license or Istimara should be reported to the nearest Traffic Police branch. The loss or theft of car number plates should be reported to police stations.
The loss of Saudi passport, expatriate passport or Iqama should be reported to the nearest Passport Department branch. However, the police should be informed in criminal cases of theft of documents.
The existing Ministry of Interior rules as mentioned on its website say that if the loss of passport or Iqama is not reported within 24 hours, a fine of SR1,000 will be imposed in first instance, SR2,000 in second instance, and SR3,000 in third instance.
