The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud chaired the Cabinet session which was held at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh yesterday.
In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the session, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja, Minister of Culture and Information, said the Cabinet discussed the latest developments at regional, Arab and international arenas, renewing the firm stances of the Kingdom towards them and stressing its commitment and support for all sincere efforts to achieve global security and stability.
The Cabinet welcomed the decisions adopted by the Human Rights Council at the end of its session in Geneva on human rights in a number of countries, hailing its condemnation for Israel's violations of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories and its adoption of a resolution on the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. The Cabinet lauded Human Rights Council's demand that all Member States of the United Nations support the Palestinian people to establish their independent state. The Cabinet praised Human Rights Council's condemnation of the continued Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories. The Cabinet hailed the Human Rights Council's decision to establish an independent international fact-finding mission to investigate the implications of the Israeli settlements on the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of the Palestinian people.
Dr. Khoja said that the Cabinet expressed a condemnation of the Kingdom of the criminal act carried out by a terrorist in Toulouse and Montauban, France, which killed six French citizens, stressing the Kingdom's stance of refusing all acts of violence and terrorism that lead to the loss of innocent lives. The Cabinet expressed condolences of the Kingdom to the government and people of France in this tragedy.
Then, the cabinet reviewed a number of issues related to economic and scientific activities of the Kingdom. The cabinet expressed thanks and appreciation to the Turkish government for its decision to terminate anti-dumping duties imposed on petrochemical exports of Saudi Arabia reflecting the robustness and coherence of the special relations between Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The cabinet stressed that the Kingdom's trade dealings are consistent with the commitments made at the World Trade Organization. The cabinet also praised the end of all lawsuits currently filed against the Kingdom's petrochemical products.
The cabinet highlighted the third International GCC Forum and Exhibition of Environment and Sustainable Development in Jeddah with participation of more than a thousand scientists, researchers and interested in the environmental issue.
Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja said that then, the cabinet continued discussion of its agenda and issued the following decisions:
The Cabinet approved a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Financial Intelligence Unit of The Netherlands to cooperate in the exchange of financial intelligence on money-laundering and terror financing signed on 18/3/1432 H. corresponding to 21/2/2011.
The Cabinet approved an agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Government of the Republic of Romania for the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion concerning taxes on income and the attached protocol signed in the city of Riyadh on 22/5/1432 H corresponding to 26/4/2011 AD.
The Cabinet authorized the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources - or his deputy - to discuss and sign with the Jordanian side a draft memorandum of understanding for technical cooperation between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the areas of geology and mining.
After reviewing a report by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geological Survey Council, the cabinet decided to approve renewing the membership of Dr. Saeed bin Jubran Al-Qahtani of the board of the Saudi Geological Survey for a period of three years from 1/5/1433 AH and the appointment of Dr. Mohammed bin Issa al-Dabbagh and Dr. Mohammed bin Hussein Bassiouni as specialist members of the board of the Saudi Geological Survey for a period of three years from the date of issuance of the decision.
The Cabinet approved a number of appointments of high-ranking government officials as follows:
1- Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Suwdairi is appointed to the post of Secretary of the Regional Council of Riyadh Governorate (rank 14) at Riyadh Governorate.
2- Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Shkiran is appointed to the post of Minister Plenipotentiary at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3- Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Dafee is appointed to the post of Advisor for Transport Affairs (rank 14) at Ministry of Transport.
4- Eng. Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Athel is appointed to the post of Consultant Civil Engineer (rank 14) at General Presidency for Youth Welfare.
