5th GIS Symposium launched in the Eastern Region

Zarib bin Saeed Al-Qahtani, Deputy of the Emirate of the Eastern Region, inaugurated lately the 5th National GIS Symposium in Saudi Arabia which was organized by High Committee of Geographic Information Systems in the Eastern Region governorate lasting for 3 days in Khobar Province's Meridian.
Dr. Abdul-Mohsen bin Hussein Al-Qadi, Head of the Technical Committee for GIS in the Eastern Region, stated that this symposium attracted efficient specialists providing them with the opportunity to interact and share knowledge and expertise and to be informed by latest developments of research and studies in this respect. The symposium asked all Department and corporations both at the Public and Private sectors to make benefit of GIS in providing and developing services.
On the other hand, Eastern Region Deputy confirmed that the Committee will exert all efforts to execute recommendations concluded at the end of the symposium. This will consequently make benefits for all community, he said. He then pointed out the importance of such GIS in many fields including Urban and Construction Planning, and Safety of Environment and Services Infrastructures, especially where Saudi Cities and the Eastern Region have shown widely growing geographical expansion.
Such a symposium has brought all stakeholders in the geospatial domain - academia, researchers, students and the industry - onto one platform for interaction, sharing knowledge. It is intended to encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience in geospatial sciences among researchers, practitioners, and professionals within the Kingdom and abroad.
