Dean of IT and Distance Education in charge of the University of Al-Kharj, Dr. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Qahtani presented a scientific paper entitled "E-learning and distance education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: a golden opportunity for all", and that during his participation as a keynote speaker at the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Interactive Computer Learning ICL2010 held in Belgium recently.
Dr. Al-Qahtani said in his paper, according to the newspaper "Al-Riyadh", that due to the extensive geographic spread of higher education, and the large numbers of entrants, particularly from students, and to bridge time and space, and to pay the anticipated shortfall in faculty members, especially in girls education , the Ministry of Education Higher sought to develop a new style of education, namely, e-learning and distance education, by establishing the National Centre for e-learning and distance education, and encouraging universities to develop deanships and centers in this particular regard, and issuing a bylaws of e-learning and distance education, approved by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques recently.
In conclusion, he explained the need to develop new educational mechanisms and academic programs investing the techniques and legislation of e-learning and distance education.
