Dr. Awwad Al-Awwad: Women’s rights are a national priority

Riyadh, SPA:
President of Human Rights Commission Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad has confirmed that under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia placed enabling women and protecting them as a top priority and followed serious steps to achieve that, adding that Saudi Arabia has recorded a number of achievements in implementing women’s rights in different institutions.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020 which is celebrated annually on 8th March, Dr. Al-Awwad said that women took great part in reforms related to human rights which the Saudi Vision 2030 adopted and stated that “ Saudi women are an important component of our strength. With over 50 percent of our university graduates being female, we will continue to develop their talents, invest in their productive capabilities and enable them to strengthen their future and contribute to the development of our society and economy."
Dr. Al-Awwad stressed that Saudi achievements in women’s rights attracted global attention. World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law 2020 report confirmed that the Kingdom ranks as the top reformer and top improver among 190 economies that it covers. It also placed Saudi Arabia first among GCC countries and second in the Arab world. Women’s Committee announcement of Riyadh as the capital of Arab Women for the year 2020 under the slogan "Woman is Homeland and Ambition" is another achievement that represents the fruit of Saudi efforts to enable women in different sectors.
Dr. Al-Awwad also stated that under the wise leadership, Saudi Arabia issued 60 human rights decisions, and 22 of which focused on women’s rights. This shows that Saudi Arabia is entering a new generation where women are partners contributing remarkably to society.
