Riyadh, SPA: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by a delegation from the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GASGI), has participated in the third session, "Strengthening relationships, links and connections in geographical names standardization and for sustainable development and pandemic recovery", of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN).
The session is convened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA. The delegation included representatives from Saudi government entities concerned with geographical names and was headed by the President of the Authority, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Yahya Alsayel.
The UNGEGN group of experts addressed the most important topics related to government reports about their progress in the standardization process and the role of organizations and committees in the geospatial information domain.
During the session opening segment, Dr. Eng. Alsayel delivered a keynote statement, "Challenges and opportunities faced by GASGI", where he reconfirmed the Kingdom's keen interest in geographical names, as they are part of the supporting and enabling elements for various sectors and fields.
