Nelly Korda, the World number 1 golfer and Olympic gold medalist, together with her sister Jessica, have joined the list of top female golfers for the 3rd Saudi Aramco Team Series tournament in New York.
The tournament, one of the European Tour tournaments, with prizes amounting to $1 million, will be held from October 14-16 at the "Glen Oaks" course, with a group of female golf professionals competing, including five of the top 20 players in the world.
The organizing committee had previously confirmed the participation of American Solheim Cup stars Lizette Salas and Lexi Thompson, in addition to the European team player and AIG Women's British Open champion "Anna Nordqvist".
Korda said she is thrilled to have the event in her schedule.
For his part, Majed Al-Sorour, CEO of the Saudi Golf Federation, explained that the list of names participating in New York will be the strongest, citing the participation of a group of the elite who recently participated in the Solheim Cup. That will be a driving force towards achieving the goal to spread this sport on a global level, and improve women's sporting opportunities through some of the initiatives that are planned to be implemented in New York, he added.
The Aramco Team Series is a brand-new four-tournament concept introduced on the Ladies European Tour earlier this year. Taking place across three continents, the tournaments will see the world’s best players team up with amateur golfers to compete for a $1m prize fund. It sees teams of four, that include three pros and one amateur, battle it out for a share of an $800,000 prize fund, with a $200,000 purse for the leading individual scores over the weekend.
