The second round of Diriyah Formula e-Prix 2022, as part of the 8th season of the EBB FIA Formula E World Championship, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 4th time over two consecutive days, 28 and 29 January 2022, was concluded in a race held at last night under the lights.
The race, which was attended by Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation and the Saudi Motorsports Company, witnessed a strong competition among the competitors, as the Swiss Edoardo Mortara, the driver for the "ROKiT Venturi Racing - Monaco" team, won first place in the second round, while the Dutchman Robin Frings, the driver for the “Invision Racing” team, came in second place and the third place went to the Brazilian Lucas di Grassi, the driver for the "ROKiT Venturi Racing - Monaco" team.
The race started at eight on Saturday evening, lasted 45 minutes, and witnessed several stops due to accidents committed by drivers that required the intervention of safety cars. The free practice driving tests started at 1:30 p.m., during which German Pascal Wehrlin, the driver for "Tag Heuer Porsche" team, succeeded in achieving the fastest time, while French Jean-Eric Vergne, the driver for "DS Cheetah", came second, followed by Britain's Oliver Rowland, the driver for Mahindra Racing in third place.
At 3:40 p.m., the qualifying trials for the first group began, followed by the qualifying trials for the second group, to start the knockout qualifiers, which ended with the achievement made by the Dutchman Nyck de Vries, the driver for "Mercedes-Benz EQ" team who is the current world champion and winner of the first round race that took place on Friday, which was the first pole position, after he beat Swiss Edoardo Mortara, the driver for the "ROKiT Venturi Racing - Monaco" team in the final round to set the positions, while the Dutchman Robin Frings, the driver for the British “Invision Racing” team finished third.
The competitions of the 8th season of "ABB FIA Formula E" World Championships began with the first round the day before yesterday (Friday), of which won by the Dutchman Nyck de Vries, the driver for "Mercedes-Benz EQ", who finished 10th in the second stage on Saturday evening due to technical problems, while his Belgian teammate Stoffel Vandoorne came second and the 3rd place went to the British Jake Dennis, the driver for "Avalanche Andretti".
It is worth mentioning that national and global news covered the race of Diriyah Formula E-Prix 2022, as the event was broadcast through 63 channels to 150 countries, while the number of media outlets that attended the Diriyah Race Circuit exceeded 50 ones, in addition to 110 media professionals including editors and photographers.
